Workers in the Pineapple fields are not treated fairly

Share

The Philippines is the second largest exporter of pineapples in the world and Mindanao is almost the only area of the Philippines exporting pineapples.
The workers in the Pineapple fields in Mindanao are not treated fairly. They are often just employed as contractual workers with out right to any benefits. No social security and their wages are so low that they cannot even support their own family.

Workers are exposed to pesticides, which detoriate their health.
It is mostly international companies which own or rent or lease the land. There is even suspicion that the authorities and the labour organizations are in the hands of the international companies exporting the pineapples.
